Frederick, MD – Head coach Renard Smith and the Lady Panthers (21-0; 10-0 MD JUCO Conference) continue their winning ways by defeating Hagerstown Community College (11-15; 4-6 MD JUCO Conference) 77-47 in the first round of the Region XX Tournament. 

Freshman Ciarra Lucas (Old Mill/Baltimore, MD) and sophomore Ashley Jones (Old Mill/Baltimore, MD) both led all scorers with 17 points each.  Jones completed the game with another double-double ending the game with 17 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, five steals and one blocked shot.  While Lucas completed the game with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists, five steals and two blocked shots.   

Coming off the bench and providing another strong performance was freshman Chanet Wallace (Edmondson/Baltimore, MD) finishing the game with nine points, seven rebounds and one blocked shot. 

Freshman point guard Tanira McClurkin (St. Frances/Baltimore, MD) stepped up her game by finishing two assists short of a double-double with 14 points, eight assists, three rebounds and four steals.  While sophomore guard Charda Lomax (Frederick Douglass/Baltimore, MD) confirmed the status of being team captain and NJCAA All-American finishing the game two points shy of a double-double of her own with eight points, 10 rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocked shots. 

Next game for the Lady Panthers will be the second game of the semifinals on Saturday against Garrett College.  BCCC defeated Garrett in the semifinal round of the MD JUCO Conference Tournament 50-42 behind McClurkin scoring a game high 16 points.

Tickets for the tournament are $5 each day for adults and $3.00 for children or $10 for a tournament pass.  Tournament programs, t-shirts and concessions will be on sale during the event.
