BALTIMORE – Coming fresh off from winning the MD JUCO Conference championship game against MC-Germantown 65-57, the Baltimore City Community College Panthers (16-11; 7-7 MD JUCO Conference) are ready to extend their season when they play the College of Southern MD in the opening round of the Region XX Tournament.

After winning the MD JUCO Conference championship, BCCC rose up the rankings which now the team found themselves ranked at the number three in the Region XX Tournament.  The Panthers are set to begin the opening round of play at 3 p.m. on the campus of Hagerstown Community College.

This will be the third time this season the two teams have met.  The first meeting during the regular season found the Panthers on the losing end with College of Southern MD winning the game by one 67-66.  The second time around BCCC got revenge from the first lose by coming out on top in convincing fashion with the final score reading 87-76 and the rest is Panther history.

Freshman forward Carlos Smith (Forest Park/Baltimore, MD) had a season high 21 points in the last meeting against CSM.  Sophomore forward and NJCAA All-American John Williams (Mervo/Baltimore, MD) followed up with another double-double on the season and finished the game with 14 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots.

MD JUCO Conference Tournament MVP Calvert Townes (Joppatowne/Joppatowne, MD) ended the game two rebounds shy of a double-double with 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.
