Dr. Steve Hokuf was an integral part of the Baltimore Junior College (later the Community College of Baltimore) athletics department between 1958 and 1979. During his tenure, he served as athletic director and coached the football and golf teams.

The athletics program was very successful under Hokuf as all 14 athletic teams won conference and/or regional championships. He served as the President of the Maryland Junior College Athletic Association (MD JUCO) from 1977-1979, chaired the Region XX Football Committee from 1973-1978 and served on the Track and Field and Golf Committees. Hokuf was named the Region XX Football Coach of the Year in 1966-67.

Hokuf received his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Nebraska in 1933. He was a three-sport athlete at Nebraska, playing football, basketball and track and field. He was a three-time All-Big Six end in football and a two-time All-Big Six guard in basketball. In 1939, he earned his master’s degree in education from the University of Wyoming and, in 1951, he received his Doctorate of Education from Columbia University.

Hokuf has been inductedinto the Nebraska Football, Nebraska Basketball, and Region XX Halls of Fame. He passed away in 2000 at the age of 89.
